Where do we go now?

October 28th, 2008 | No Comments | Posted in Daily, School, Work, family

It’s been five years since I came to this rather small town, along with my parents. Here I have met some good friends, my boyfriend. It was here that I got my first frenchie, that I graduated high school, that I got into college, that I got into college yet again, that I got the first two Cambridge ESOL certificates that I’d always wanted.

But, as I said, it’s a rather small town. I miss São Paulo, where I used to spend every second of both my school vacations (adding up to more than three months an year). I miss Rio, where I grew up, where I feel at home. Heck, I even miss Minas, where I was born, even though I got to know it roughly only last year. This town is not for me, I don’t really like certain things and I don’t think I’ll ever get used to those things.

But what’s been bugging me is that São Paulo would be perfect for me now. There are two major advertisement colleges there that I would die to attend. There are two aunts of mine that are advertisers themselves, so maybe they can hook up an internship or something like that. It’s a huge city, but my grandpa lives a little bit isolated in an amazing house on this quiet neighborhood. I love that house, and I can see my frenchies there, puppies and the whole enchilada.

Okay, but then there are many money issues to consider, there is the fact that I’m not sure if my grandpa is going to stay at that house (he thinks it’s too empty, but if he let me stay there with a couple dozen frenchies, I’m betting he’ll never think that again), there is the fact that I’m not sure if I can get into one of those top colleges (although I’m IN LOVE with advertising and I’m always studying and I really feel happy doing just that, I guess compared to people there, I know next to nothing). And there is my boyfriend, too. What would happen?

I can’t deny that this is an idea I’ve been flirting with for quite some time now. God only knows where I’ll be in one or two years. And I kinda like that.

My days of work

A great (and true) comic by
HijiNKS Ensue

This, internet. This is how I spend my days at work. Not that I don’t love being a webdesigner, but debugging for IE (6, especially) breaks my days.

Piggy Bank

Today I went on a meeting with a client who’s been stalling me for more than an year now. Hopefully we’ll actually finish his website now and I’ll have a few more coins to toss into my Frenchies saving account. Which means my main account, because I hardly ever spend money on me and I’ve only just realized that.

The last things I bought were: (this week)

  • 20 bucks worth of meat and a carton of yoghurt on the market.
  • 12 bucks worth of raw meaty bones (chicken parts)
  • 10 bucks on a cute and useful “folding” travelling water bowl
  • 6 bucks worth of salmon
  • 15-buck squeaky toy that they lost interest in within the hour

The last thing I bought for me was:

  • Cool pants and two pairs of shoes, a month ago

But I admit it, I was thinking “these will be great to go into the ring!“.

IE 6 and the hate in me

At some point of any given day at work, I will start cursing and hating Internet Explorer 6. If a design looks perfect in Firefox, I’ll go to IE 7 and most of the time it works okayish at the very least. On IE 6, it’s always WRECKED. Always.

Please, if you have IE 6, upgrade your browser to IE 7 at the very least. Most preferrably, download another browser such as Mozilla Firefox or Google Chrome.

I bet the Webdesigners Suicide Ratio will dramatically decrease if people stop using this thing from hell.

Posting at work

I’ve been a terrible blog keeper, and this is no exception. I spent three months or so with no entry whatsoever. And these were crucial months to me!

I got this great job literally next to my place. I don’t even have to go across the street, it’s on the same block! I can get here in less than 5 minutes, literally. Which means I can take one or two (or ten) breaks at home whenever I have litters! So, now I spend my afternoons and part of my nights devoting my time to CSS, HTML and Photoshop / Flash / etc. Like before, but now I get the big bucks.

And in the morning, I’m getting a degree in Advertising. It’s something I wanted to do ever since I got into Computer Science college. Needless to say, I’m too excited about it.

Besides all that, Mirabela has been living with us. She’s always been a crappy eater, but now she’s been enjoying her Raw Meaty Bones ever since day one. She now eats way better than the other frenchies, who have been raw fed for at least three more months than her.

Going back to Flash now. Will try and post more about life and the universe. Stay tuned, internet!
